Unlikely Places for Finding Deals

Yesterday I was in Shopko, which I had only been in maybe one other time, but I was pleasantly shocked. It’s a great little store. It’s like Target, but not as expensive and no where near the volume of people. I saw in the paper they had Halloween costumes on sale for 60% off so we went. Browsing through the aisles we hit furniture where they are having huge markdowns. My eye was drawn to this leather recliner they had sitting there. My husband has been wanting one for a while now. But it’s not been on our financial radar. But then I saw the price.
It was originally $899 marked down to $449! I was shocked!
Needless to say, my husband got his early Christmas present today. And wow, as I sit and type this, I am super comfortable in this new cheap purchase and even more happy that I found it in an unexpected place.
I didn’t even know that Shopko sold furniture, let alone good furniture.
Lesson learned = don’t throw out any store for having good deals. You’d be surprised at what you find.
Here is another list of places to get unlikely deals and discounts
1. Expos – Wedding, home and garden, food etc. These are all type of expos where vendors offer thousands of dollars in discounts and sometimes all you have to do is show up! Some vendors will do huge giveaways worth thousands. You don’t want to miss that.
2. College Welcome Week - Most colleges will have a week where all the orgaznzations will set up and giveaway items. A lot of local businesses will also participate with giveaways too. I did enough of these in college to know you don’t have to be a college student to go. You can also enjoy some free food there too!
3. Auctions – This is fairly obvious, but if you can find a good local auction, you can save a ton of money on the items they are auctioning off.
Where have you found some unexpected deals?

spread the word!
