Over the years, the debate over the safety of fluoride has led our family to buy no-fluoride toothpaste for quite some time now. We have felt good about the toothpaste we have been using. But, it is not cheap. You know how you can get great deals, and even freebies, on most major brands once in a while? Well, those deals just don’t happen for the brands we use. I have thought about making toothpaste for a long time. But, it was just one more thing to make. So, I haven’t pursued it seriously…until now.
I have found a very simple recipe and am only missing one ingredient (stevia). So, I plan to pick it up while I’m out today. And, I am so excited to make it this weekend!
Here’s the basic recipe for toothpaste:
3 tbsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. coconut oil
a packet of the natural sweetener stevia
a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil (like orange or spearmint or peppermint) or vanilla extract (optional)
Just mix everything together and put it in an airtight, covered container.
That’s it! It gives you toothpaste without any extra chemicals you really can do without and saves you (me) a lot of money! You’re very welcome! 🙂
Have you ever made your own toothpaste? How do you like it?
