The Best Deal Finder: YOU!

Posted on October 21st, 2011 by Coupon Cathy

What am I talking about? This site is here to help you find the best deals online, at national stores, at your local grocery stores. We can show you where to get the best coupons and how to maximize those coupons by matching them up with the best discounts and sales. But, with all that we can help you do, we cannot go into your local grocery or drug store and see what may be on clearance there.

I know that there are some who suggest you label the inserts with a date and retrieve them once you have your list and match ups prepared. That way, you don’t have to clip every coupon. The only downside is getting to your store and finding an unadvertised deal for which you have a coupon sitting in an insert at home. Take your coupons with you so that you don’t have to make extra trips, or lose out on a deal.

I went to Kroger tonight to pick up just a couple of items. I always scan the Clearance section just in case there is something that may pique my interest. I can’t remember if I have ever purchased anything from that section. Most of the time, I’m not really interested in what is on clearance there. And, sometimes, the “clearance” price is not as good as what I know I can get elsewhere.

Tonight, as I was walking away from that section, I noticed boxes of diapers on the floor of that section. Diapers! Pampers! And, what felt like the jackpot, they had 3 boxes of the size my baby wears! So, what was originally $16.99 was on clearance for $8.49. I had $2.00 off coupons for each box. So, I landed three boxes of diapers at about $0.09 per diaper! I thought I was going to leap out of my own skin because I’d landed such a great deal.

Incidentally, I had planned on stopping at Target afterwards in order to take advantage of what I thought was the best deal on diapers this week. I wasn’t excited about the deal at Target, but I needed to get diapers and it was the best deal I had access to. That deal would have ended up costing $0.14 per diaper. Thank God I checked that Clearance section first! I saved an additional $10 and still have a very high value coupon that I had planned on using at Target.

The morals of the story:

  • Always, always, always check the clearance section
  • Always bring your coupons
  • Know Your Prices

So, make the most out of all of the circulars and the websites that help you get organized. But, always remember that unless the people posting the match ups are shopping at your local stores, they can’t necessarily find what you can.

What clearance finds have you scored lately?
