Whole Foods One-Day Sale: 5lbs of Organic Apples for $5

Posted on November 8th, 2013 by Discount Debbie

I’ll be headed out to Whole Foods to pick up a few apples today. Well, I’ll be picking up 5 pounds, to be exact. Whole Foods is having a one day sale on Organic Gala, Granny Smith and Braeburn apples. You can get one pound for $1.49 (which is a pretty good price for organic apples) or pick up a 5lb bag for $5. If you buy organic apples, you know that $1/lb for organic apples is a fantastic, can’t-pass-this-up kind of deal!

I’ve gotten pretty good deals on organic apples in the last few months. However, this is the best deal by far! I have talked and talked about making apple pie. But, we always eat our apples fresh. This may finally be the time to make apple pie!

Aside from apple pie, I’m looking at other options for ways to enjoy our apples.

I found this relatively healthy recipe for apple bars! Of course, if you’re not concerned quite as much about whether it’s a grain-free recipe, this one looks good too!

I may also give this apple chip recipe a try! Here’s one for maple apple chips!

And, how about some apple salsa and chips (made out of cheese, just cheese)!

So, you get the idea. There’s a lot you can do with apples. Now, that I see all these yummy recipes, I may pick up 10lbs of apples 😉

Do you like to take advantage of bulk deals on produce like this? What would YOU do with all those apples?

What To Do With All Those Apples

Posted on September 25th, 2013 by Discount Debbie

You may have noticed that the apple deals have begun! Yay! I'm a big fan of apples. I eat at least an apple a day, as long as we have them around the house. And, they are a staple around here. My children like getting apple sticks at a morning or afternoon snack. As far as I'm concerned, few things top eating apples fresh. However, there are lots of things you can do with apples. I encourage you to take advantage of the apple deals you see! This week Sprouts has organic Pink Lady apples for only $.69/lb. I noticed that this coming week, they will be on sale for $.99/lb. That's still a very good deal when you consider how much organic apples (or fruit of any kind, for that matter) cost!

So, as we enter into apple season, also known as Fall, I thought I'd share a few ideas on how to use all those apples without getting tired of them! 🙂

Apple Pie

It's Fall and it's apple season. Enjoy the comfort and yummy-ness of hot apple pie! Why not?

Apple-Cheddar Cheese Snacks

I was in a line at the airport once when someone shared this idea with me. I think we were talking about apple pie and the woman in front of me said she uses a recipe that includes cheddar cheese in her pie. I hadn't heard of the combination. She encouraged me to simply try apple and cheddar cheese together and see how good it tastes. I gave it a try and thoroughly enjoyed it. It makes for an easy, nutritious snack.

Salad

Chopped apples taste great in salad. Toss them in a spinach salad–or any green salad–with some walnuts, in a chicken salad or even potato salad or coleslaw (if you're still making those “summer” foods).

Chips

Make some apple chips. I've thought about it but haven't done it…yet. Here's a recipe that looks easy and healthy.

What's your favorite way to eat apples?

I could sit here and write, quite sincerely, about all the reasons I love to shop at Sprouts and look forward to this week’s trip. However, what matters most about this post is the picture above this entire post. If you are still sitting here reading this post, rather than running to get into your car to go get your apples, then let me tell you that this kind of deal on organic apples of any kind, much less pink lady apples (which are SO tasty!), is a CRAZY good deal.
