It’s true and I promise it’s not hard. As a matter of fact, you may find it enjoyable and you will definitely see it help your monthly budget.
My husband says you should all make your own mittens. Where does he get this stuff? I said how would they do that, he says you need to “yarn it”. Thought you all could use some humor 🙂
Onto our list of things you can make instead of buying.
I have recently fallen in LOVE with homemade bread! Want my recipe? Check back on the blog soon because I am going to share it. It was so easy and the best. bread. ever! Seriously check back often so you can make it. I am a HORRIBLE baker and my bread turned out amazing. I estimate that it cost be about $5 for six loafs.
2. Laundry soap.
It’s true that there are tons of do it yourself soaps and cleaning agents, but I am only going to list things I have personal experience with. You can see our post here about our homemade laundry soap. It’s so easy and definitely inexpensive.
3. Finger paints.
What child doesn’t like some good ole’ finger paint? It’s super easy to make and I bet you have all of these ingredients in your house. My two-year-old tried to eat it when I made it, but at least it was all natural 🙂
What you need:
1/2 cup cornstarch
3 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 cups cold water
In a medium pan, mix all the ingredients together to make the finger paint. Cook over low heat 10 to 15 minutes. Keep stirring the finger paint mixture until it is smooth and thick. After the finger paint has thickened take the pan off the stove and let the mixture cool.
After cooling, divide the finger paint into storage containers depending on how many colors you would like. Add a few drops of food coloring to each container. Stir the coloring in to the paint to determine the shade of color. You’re ready to finger paint! Cover tightly when storing.
Thanks Creative kids at home for the recipe!
Yes, totally random right after finger paints, but seriously the markup on hummus is RIDICULOUS. Make your own, don’t
buy it and I promise it will even taste better!
Here’s my recipe I use 🙂
1 (19 ounce) can garbanzo beans, half the liquid reserved
4 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons tahini
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
black pepper to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil
I just put it all in the food processor and blend until creamy. Oh so good!
