By the time school is over, kids are usually pretty darn hungry. Unfortunately, they’re not likely to spend time putting together a healthy snack, and most often want to go for what’s most convenient and fast. Most of those quick options end up being bags of chips or cookies, which are not the best choices.
To help avoid the before-dinner meltdowns or spoiling their dinner with sweets, I have put together a few of my favorite after-school snacks that are easy enough to be thrown together quickly! You can do some for them, or teach them how to make it themselves! These snacks are perfect because they’re filled with nutrition to get them through their homework before dinnertime.
Spread peanut butter (or almond butter) on apple slices and top with nuts and/or chocolate chips. YUM!
Peanut Butter Banana Roll-Up
This is so simple, it won’t take you longer than a couple minutes to spread peanut butter on a wheat flatbread or tortilla, add some sliced bananas and roll it up!
Easy to throw together with whatever fruit you have! Plus, add almond milk or yogurt for some extra calcium and protein!
It doesn’t have to take much time to put together something healthy to tide your kids over until dinner is done. After a long day of classes they’re in need of an energy boost, and these simple recipes all provide that for them.
