Spending time with family does not always have to have a cost. In fact the best memories usually come from cost free activities. Here are a few of my favorite free family activities.
I love walking with my family. When I was little we would walk next to a near by canal and catch crawdads together. We would name them all Bob turned out to be Bob take them back to the canal later that week. Now I take walks with my little guy. We like to count the neighborhood cats. Walking also give us a chance to fit some exercise into our schedule.
Art Supplies And Projects
We all know what happens to art supplies made for children. They dry out, get mixed together, and/ or get eaten. That's why I make art supplies at home. There are many art supplies that can be made with household ingredients such as flour, salt and water. The two I use most are play do and finger paints . My little guy likes to help in the kitchen. In doing so, he is learning the basics of using the kitchen. Brest of all, if he chooses to try a bite, I know that the finger paint isn't toxic.
Family Book Club
My husband has very limited time with our son at home, but wants to make the best of the time he has. He wants to have real conversations with our son. He just isn't sure what to talk about. With this in mind we started a family book club. Now we read together and talk about the books. It's a great way for those with limited time to get a real conversation in with their kids. It also promotes a love of reading.
We like to take weekend drives around our neighborhood. We point out stores, parks and familiar buildings. We talk about things that took place during our weeks and make sure we listen to our little guy, not the radio. Sometimes we end up at the park or the library. Best of all driving usually prepares our guy for his nap.
