Have you seen the prices at coffee shops lately for your favorite coffee drink? I know mine runs around $3.50 for just a SMALL!
Add that up over at least 5 days a week for 4 weeks and you’ve got quite the month bill. It may be easy for some to just get rid of that out of their budget, but for some a daily coffee is non-negotiable. Here are some ways you can save money on your favorite drinks.
1. Buy an espresso machine.
You can pick one up at Wal-Mart for around $30. That’s two weeks at your favorite coffee shop. It’s VERY easy to make your own. You need just a few items. Good quality coffee beans that can run anywhere from $8-a thousand. You don’t need the thousand dollar beans, trust me. Your local coffee shop probably even sells their beans so you can make the same stuff they do. Also pick up some flavored syrups. Most coffee shops use DaVinci syrups. You can even buy them from Amazon for a great price. Follow this link to my favorite flavor. You will also need some kind of chocolate or caramel syrup. You can pick that up from your local grocery store by the ice cream toppings. The possibility are endless on what you can make, so just experiment. Oh and don’t forget milk. Get whatever you like from soy to whole milk. Then just follow the directions that came with your machine. I promise, it’s not hard at all and you won’t be able to tell it was made at home.
2. Order it “Cafe au Lait” style.
Basically this just means coffee with milk. It’s really not much different than your common mocha or latte. The only difference in those drinks is that they use espresso. And contrary to believe, espresso isn’t a special bean, it’s a way of brewing. Couple your “Cafe au Lait” style with a shot of your favorite syrup and you’ve basically recreated your favorite drink and saved yourself a couple of bucks.
3. Watching for daily deal websites in your area. At least once a week, I see a deal on Groupon or Living Social for a coffee shop. Get those when you can because they are generally half off at your favorite spots and can really save you some dough!
4. Sign up for your local coffee shops reward programs.
I know most coffee shops I visit have punch cards and rewards programs. This is great for the occasional free drink. Sometimes they will even send you free ones on your birthday!
5. Stop drinking all together. Ok so this isn’t a viable option for many of you, but it makes number 5 on my list and I like to have 5 things so indulge me 🙂
