I am always late. My dad likes to joke that I exist in my own time zone. My sister often tells me that an event starts 30 minutes to an hour before it actually does just so that I will get ready earlier. Whenever I am actually on time or if I *gasp* arrive early, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment unlike any other. It’s actually very sad.
Anyways… Enough about my problem.
Luckily, over the years I have found a few ways to help me arrive at my destination in a timely fashion, and I’d love to share them with you!
Set out the cereal, bowl, and spoon on the counter the night before (please keep the milk in the fridge) along with your keys, bag, and anything else you usually waste time searching frantically for before you leave.
Decide on what you’ll wear the night before, even if you don’t set it out.
Curl your hair before you go to bed (do tight curls so that they loosen overnight to the perfect curl). You could always try one of those overnight-curling tricks, too. I used to love braiding my hair the night before and waking up to wavy locks.
Set Multiple Alarms
I have an alarm to wake me up, another to let me know that if I ignored that first one now it is really time to get up, another as a 15-minutes-before-I-leave warning, and the last one tells me I need to get into my car ASAP. It may not work for everyone, but I find that the alarm blaring here and there keeps me on track and, it helps me find my phone if I lose it in my morning haste.
Set Your Car Clock 5 Minutes Fast
My mother taught me this trick. There is nothing like feeling like you’re late, only to realize that you actually have an additional 5 minutes to spare. Another great place to set the clock ahead is the stove clock, I find myself glancing at that one to pace myself as I leave.
Only Do Part Of Your Makeup
If you’re in a real time crunch rub on some foundation or concealer to even out your skin tone, swipe on some mascara to bring out your eyes, and finish it with some colored lipstick or gloss. For some reason if your lips are done your whole face looks more complete. If you’d like, take your eyeliner, blush and whatever other products you use with you and sneak away to the restroom after you’ve arrived to finish up.
If you are cursed with constantly being late to things, I urge you to try a few of these tips. They have saved me quite a few times in my quest to get ready.
Do you have any tips to help you get ready and out the door faster? If so, please leave them in the comments. I am always looking for new ideas!
